Daily Method of Operation (DMO)
One of the biggest hurdles most home based business owners have to get over is working from home. It can be lonely, distracting and frustrating.
The best way to overcome this is to create and follow a Daily Method of Operation (DMO).
I will walk you through my own as an example but each person needs to set up their own DMO to be able to successfully stick to it.
I usually begin my day between 7:00am-8:00am.
*I feed and water my animals, make the coffee and turn on the computer. (During the school year I would also get the kids off to school; right now they get to sleep in during summer vacation, but having them home creates other issues which will be discussed later.)
*I first open my simple-ology daily praxes. I brain dump what I want or need to get done and review anything that didn't get done from the day before. I then reset my daily goals and begin accomplishing them. (Simple-ology has made my ability to focus, achieve and enjoy my tasks so much easier at this point I wouldn't want to live without it.)
*I review my emails and respond to anything that is urgent.
*I add any new networkers or friends to my Sponsor Daddy contact manager.
*I blog.
*I meditate.
*I write any articles or reviews that are due.
*I check all my social networking sites and update information as needed.
*I make all my morning calls to HOT prospects.
*I post my ads to my free advertising sites.
*I continue my education with regards to personal development using my simple-ology courses and other network marketing, social networking or spirituality tools and sites I have found. (It's not even noon yet and I feel great because I am accomplishing a lot!!!)
*I break for lunch and some type of exercise. (usually around 12:30)
*I continue to call HOT prospects. *I look for another free way to market myself. (I try to add at least 2-3 new ways per week)
*I do another check of email and social networking sites and respond as needed.
*I break for family time and dinner. (around 3-5pm)
*I take my kids to any sports or friend activities they have scheduled. (5-9)
*I get back on the computer around 9pm and attend any webinars *I make any west coast evening HOT prospect calls I have.
*I do my final check of email and social networking sites and respond as needed.
That is a normal day. The beauty of what I do though is that I can change or add tasks as needed. For example on Monday this week, during the afternoon, I went to pick my son up from a friends house and the boys were hot and bored so I took them to the beach. I knew I didn't have any urgent calls and because I stay focused I could easily make up any marketing tasks on Tuesday so why not. I often enjoy morning coffee with my neighbor or take time to hang out with my kids. This is exactly why I wanted a home based business opportunity.
With regards to having the kids home during the summer; it is even more imperative that you find a quiet place to work. If your children are younger and you can't afford to have someone come into your home to care for them for a few hours, you may need to change your work hours to later or earlier hours when they are sleeping. Again, you have the freedom to do this. But be sure to set up specific time to work otherwise you will never find the time.
I sat down with my kids the day they got out of school and explained to them that when I am in my office I am NOT home so don't interupt. Call my cell phone, just like you would if I worked outside of the home, and I will talk to you. I have been doing this for awhile so they get it; but it did take a few "Leave me alone" moments to make them understand. Overall the most important thing is to set the DMO and make it a habit to follow it. That doesn't mean there are OMG moments that through my whole day into a whirlwind; there are, but it makes it so much easier to get back on track and continue to grow my business. To another GREAT day for us all!
